When I took the class with Elouise "Weez" Oyzon, grading was focused on understanding the concepts of animation rather than how well you can draw something. So don't be afraid to take this class if you're not a professional artist.
The following is an example:
The topic for the week was proper walk cycles. For in class assignments, you, as the student, try to properly reproduce a proper walk cycle of a standard human biped. Being specific for my example, one part of a walk cycle for a human is to have the left foot move back when the right foot moves forward, and have the hands move in the opposite direction of their respective foot. Understanding this and incorporating it into your animation was really the core of the lesson. If you expressed it via stick figure, then that was preferred over a well detailed character that didn't incorporate the concepts learned in class.
