Project Summary

Project Information

Baja SAE is a collegiate design competition in which teams design, build, and compete off-road buggies. Currently, most teams run a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which operates by keeping the engine in an optimum power band during shifting. By prototyping a sequential gearbox, a feasibility study and validation of compared performance can be performed.

The gearbox must fit into an old baja vehicle and interface with an existing engine and set of half shafts. The gearbox must sufficiently meet RIT Baja loads and fatigue requirements and have a competitive cost and weight by team standards.
