Agenda and discussion notes

ItemWhoNotes
OverviewMitch
General DesignGabe
  • Not designing for 5-axis, but just thinking of considerations for 5-axis
ControlAdam/Cam
  • Question from bill on lead times for uC if it breaks
  • Question from Denis on cutting system solenoid vs. stepper
    • Will impact the uC output
    • We are thinking of having 6 stepper drives, but cutting mechanism could add...
  • Question for Denis for system to integrate's power supply
    • If we want ability of having large amount of space, Denis has a machine with 2 ft^3 build area
    • Believes 24V power supply
    • Denis said we should get a 24V uC at this time
    • 24V components also
  • Microcontoller needs to be able to accept thermocouple
    • High end microcontrollers should be able to take thermocouple
    • If necessary, some add-ons can be used to convert voltage to temp for thermocouple
Feeding SystemMax
  • Anisoprint and Markforged use bowden for CCF
  • Denis probably has a dozen or so bowden drives lying around, and we could test with some
  • Focus on the 1.75mm thermoplastic, but still think into 1k and 3k fiber
  • Fiber feeding mech. may need to have rubber rollers because CCF is brittle
Cutting SystemEric

Comment from Denis: Open-source motivation for project, may want to use standard readily accessible blades and less custom parts.

  • Comment from Denis on concept three of making the hard surface (opposite of original blade) 1 or 2 additional blades
    • Acts like a scissor system (shear cutting)
    • Idea on shear cutting mechanism (opposed to anvil) with X-acto blades
Heating SystemMitch
  • Wants us to first go with high temp option and thermocouple (and adjust thermocouple hole sizes in heating block
BOMEverybody
Risk AssessmentGabe
Test PlanGabe
Updated Project PlanGabe
  • Give the fiber back anytime before Thanksgiving

Issues Raised

  • Rubber rollers for fiber feeding
  • PTFE  tubing for fiber (3k or 1k)
  • Thermocouple input for Microcontroller
  • Thermocouple is desired over thermistor
  • Solve problem of stepper controllers
  • Simple cutting mechanism (X-acto blade with solenoid)

Decisions Made

  • Denis said we won't need to buy Bowden stepper motors
  • 1.75 mm diameter TP is the main focus (3K & 1K fiber feeds are still the focuses right now)
  • Focusing on 24V options in BOM
  • Denis wants to use the higher temp option first to test with (450 C)

Action items

  • Complete a peer evaluation after your review. Recommended template is here
  • Complete 3-week plan for Phase IV
  • Mitch will update heating system
  •
