Held remotely on Zoom

Attendees

  • Project Sponsor: Denis Cormier, RIT AMPrint Center
  • Project Guide: Bill Nowak, Adjunct Faculty
  • MSD Director: Elizabeth DeBartolo
  • Team Members:
    • Project Manager: Gabe Michon, IE
    • Communications: Mitch Campbell, ME
    • Facilitator: Cam Hudson, CE
    • Systems Engineer: Adam Kruh, EE
    • Lead Engineer: Max Castiglione, ME
    • Purchasing: Eric Ruhl, ME

Goals

  • Discuss the system level design with guide and sponsor, and get on the same page

Agenda and discussion notes

TimeItemWhoNotes

Project BackgroundCam, Gabe
  • Review from last pres
  • Clarification question from Bill on 5-axis
  • Denis said we will not need to comply with existing IP

System AnalysisGabe, Eric, Cam
  • 2 nozzles for system? Aniso vs Markforged
  • Denis brought up that the functional decomp may need to change. It is a little solution-dependent
  • Bill asked a question about 3 axis vs 5 axis, Denis confirmed that 3 axis is our primary goal

System Level ProposalEric
  • Question on morphological chart from Denis. He said to revise these
  • Question on concept generation as some of the solutions are not exclusive of each other
  • Question from Bill on Pugh to which design we chose- we chose solution 2 as the base and added on components from others

Architecture AnalysisCam
  • General questions related to the generality and specificity of things. Conclusion was that those questions would be answered later

Engineering AnalysisMax & Adam
  • Denis said to get 1K and 3K tow and make sure that the diameter is large enough to accommodate 25%-50% fiber to thermoplastic ratio.

Risk AssessmentMitch
  • Closures due to COVID19 could also be a technical risk since we can't finish the physical requirements
  • Keep in touch with Rob to make sure workspace is being cleaned
  • Don't underestimate the challenge of cutting fiber
  • Make sure to look into the interweaving of thermoplastic and matrix (kneed it or crease, try mix cross sectional areas to make sure matrix and fiber mix.

Test PlanMitch
  • Test cutting fiber will be very difficult
  • Test by printing rectangle and cutting fiber. Move back to beginning and print again.

Updated Project PlanGabe

Feedback & DiscussionAll
  • M-code into the file to say when to actuate the cutter
  • google search to understand G-code of system
    • Modify firmware, M-code, to actuate the cutter
    • Cura, Slic3r, open source 3D printer . Can download source M-code from github.

Issues Raised

  • Bill wants us to iterate onto the Pugh using the final solution
  • Add to Engineering requirement that nozzle has to be large enough to accommodate 25-50% fiber to thermoplastic area ratio.
  • IP conflicts are not an issue, take it off the risks

Decisions Made

Action items

  • Complete a peer evaluation after your review. Recommended template is here
  • post meeting notes document to each phase
  •
  • @mention a person to add them as an attendee to assign action items, with due dates
  • add your own action items here
