Attendees

Team: Cristina Guzman-Moumtzis, Katherine Cameron, Eleanor O'Gorman, Kali Cook, and Sai Uppugalla

       Guide: Cory Stiehl

       Customer: Khang Huynh

Goals

  • Confirm our team's understanding of the main problem proposed by the project
  • Gain feedback regarding which metrics are desired and/or feasible for our engineering requirements
  • Ask for additional details to clarify use cases
  • Discuss customer's role going forward

Agenda and discussion notes

TimeItemWhoNotes
2 min Thermoregulatory BackgroundKali Cook
  •  Feed Forward should be included to the control in addition to feedback.
2 min Problem Statement & Project DeliverablesEleanor O'Gorman
  • User Interface should include user inputs
  • Customer confirmed that safety alarms were a key requirement
5 minStakeholders & Use CasesCristina Guzman-Moumtzis
  • Customer explained that in the case that a rat were to pee, two acceptable options would be a disposable part that absorbs the liquid or a water proof surface that would withstand sterilization with 0.4% rocccal d-plus or alcohol wipes.
  • Current methods store data in a stand alone box that requires a flashdrive to move to a computer.
    • Having data stored directly to a local file is desired
2 minCustomer RequirementsKatherine Cameron
  • Customer would like the option for user adjustable target temperature and vitals to accommodate changes due to the type of mouse studied.
  • Additional User Interface Wants
    • On, Off, Save, Record
    • Display previous values (5-30min prior)
    • Sampling frequency of ~10-30 seconds
  • Reducing waste is a "nice-to-have" consideration
5 minEngineering RequirementsKatherine Cameron & Kali Cook
  • Safety Alarms
  • Research needed to find accurate mouse vitals
  • Durability
    • Withstand significant use (6hrs, 2-3 times/week x # researchers)
2 minHouse of QualitySai Uppugalla
  • Customer in agreement with chart
5 minRisk ManagementSai Uppugalla
  • Customer in agreement with ranking of safety first
2 minProject Schedule & TroubleshootingKatherine Cameron
  • Customer curious about role for reviews/time commitment

Issues Raised

  • Metric for Durability is currently in hours/week which would require extensive testing.
  • Precision for rodent body temperature should be adjusted to half a degree for tighter control
  • Heart rate and breathing rate did not seem accurate. Additional research needed

Action items

  • Complete a Peer Evaluations. Recommended Template
  • Post Meeting Notes
  • Give Khang access to confluence
  • Provide Khang with customer role
    • Khang still needs paperwork to officially sign-on as our customer
  • Propose a date for the second review
  • Prepare lab-specific questions for Khang
    • Set up a Zoom tour of Khang's lab
  • Research proper vitals for the most common mice. Begin with the Black 6 Mouse C57BL/6
  • Edit Metrics and Accuracy Specifications for Engineering Requirements
