First Group Presentation

 An explanation of my role in the group

Group 2: Fortesa Karameti, Fjondi Qerkini, Lorena Sekiraqa, Hana Tahiri, Rinor Mustafa

Our presentation was about Graphic Design, its history and its influence. My part was to talk about Graphic Design in general.

Firstly, I talked about the difference between Verbal communication and Visual communication.

When we want to announce or sell, explain a complicated system or in other words when we have a message we could tell people one by one or by radio and loudspeaker. This is called verbal communication. But, if we use any visual medium; type a letter, create a business logo, a magazine or an album cover we are using a form of visual communication called graphic design.

Graphic design

is a creative process that combines art and technology to communicate ideas. It includes:

• Identity (logos and branding)
• Publications (magazines, newspapers and books)
• Print advertisements, posters, billboards, website graphics and elements, signs and product packaging.                                                                                    

Graphic designers work with painter, drawn, photographed, or computer-generated images. There are some methods that they use to create a design:

• Words
• Images
• Symbols

Graphic Design is a part of our daily life. We can find it everywhere, for example the design of our shirts. There are also some Graphic symbols that are functional and anonymous that we see them every day.

Moreover, the most important element of Graphic Design are:

• Shape- are always at the root of design, are used to create patterns, establish layouts.
• Lines- used to divide space, direct the eye and create forms.
• Color-  an interesting element of graphic design because it can be applied to any other element, changing it dramatically
• Type- because the goal is not just to place some text on the page but rather to understand and use it effectively for communication.

Other elements of Graphic Design are: texture, art, illustration and photography.

My role in the group was to talk about the graphic design nowadays.

Graphic design nowadays

?  Design had an evolution

?  Themes have changed

?  Advertising is different

?  The end of the 90’s was a big hit

Graphic design nowadays is very different from the old graphic design.

With the advances of technology the modernism began to break through at the end of 19th century. 

Modernism covered many creative disciplines from design and art to influence:

• architecture,
• music
• literature

 It also changed the thinking process for:

• communications
• graphic design and
• typography

 Before the Modernism graphic design was very complicated and “overly decorated”.

Some methods of printing distribution and new creative software have opened up new opportunities for design.

Graphic Design has always played an important role around society. It is used everywhere. Everything that we use and experience today from a newspaper, a cup, a car, a map, a computer, has been conceived by a designer. These designers nowadays are becoming producers such as: publishers, authors, instigator etc.

 In conclusion, we can see that nowadays graphic design is much improved and all that we do, almost all the time, is design.
