1. Managing news items

Users can manage their own view of the News to keep only the items they desire visible.

1.1. Dismiss a news item

  1. Click the  Dismiss icon for the news item you want to hide in the News widget.

Dismissed items will be restored to the News widget if it is flagged with a Major Update by an Instructor. If it is not flagged, edits will be reflected in the News tool overview but the user will not be alerted.

1.2. News tool overview

  1. Click the News widget title or the Go to News tool option in the grey arrow dropdown menu to enter the News tool overview. Here you can see all news items, search the news, and restore dismissed news items.

1.3. Restore a dismissed news item

  1. While located in the news tool, click the grey arrow next to news item you want to restore.
  2. Click the Restore icon to restore the news item's view on the news widget.

2. Subscribing to News RSS feed

For users who prefer to aggregate all their news into Google Reader, Outlook, etc. they can now subscribe to an RSS feed for News from a course.

You can subscribe to the News RSS feed in two ways:

  1. Using the News widget on the course homepage:
    1. Click the grey arrow next to the widget title.
    2. Click the RSS icon
  2. Using the News tool:
    1. Click the RSS button

Support can only assist you with getting the RSS feed from myCourses for your use, we are not able to assist with the configuration and use of all the third-party options to take advantage of the RSS Feed.

3. Changing News Tool Notifications

For users who wish to be notified of new news in their enrolled course shells, they can now be alerted through email or SMS.

You can access myCourses notification settings through the News tool in two ways:

  1. Using the News widget on the course homepage:
    1. Click the grey arrow next to the widget title.
    2. Click the Notifications icon
  2. Using the News tool:
    1. Click the Notifications button
