Think about connectors

Backplane Connector Decision

• Quantify what we are looking for in a connector
• Connector possibilities:
  • https://www.samtec.com/connectors/high-speed-board-to-board
  • https://www.molex.com/molex/products/group/board_to_board_connectors
  • https://www.te.com/usa-en/products/connectors/pcb-connectors/board-to-board-connectors.htm

• Breakout I/O from each module through backplane instead of having individual breakouts on each module
  • Each backplane port has a unique pair of GPIO pins sent to e.g. a DE-25
  • All GPIO in one place for ease of integration
  • Less of a rats nest of wires in the av bay

Connector Limits:

12 pins at 3A

24 pins at 1A

+6 power wires (VBat, 5v, 3.3v, GND, GND, GND)

+ 4 Ethernet

Decision:

Standard 0.1" connector for interchangeability between cables and board to board

Stack headers or IDC connectors 

Leaning towards mounting each module individually and using cables to connect to centrally mounted backplane
