Project overview
The reaction wheel allows us to control the rocket's roll rate and heading.
Hard benefits:
- Simulations more closely reflect the rocket's behavior
- Lower-risk recovery due to less spin
- Pointing a scenic camera in a specific (barring that, fixed) direction
Soft benefits:
- First experience with tuning a control system
- First experience with state estimation
- Arbitrarily complicated technical report analysis
Components:
- Wheel & mount
- Motor & mount
- Batteries
- Motor controller
- STM32F411 Discovery kit (replaceable by flight computer connection)
- LIS3MDL magnetometer (replaceable by flight computer connection)
Milestones:
- CDR: L1 scale module designed, desk demo tuning in progress
- FDR: IREC scale module designed, desk demo tuning in progress
