Exporting content from the wiki will not be an exact replica of what you see on the https://wiki.rit.edu/ site. We recommend testing various export options from the most complex page/space you have in order to determine which option works best for your needs.

Also review Importing Content into Replacement Tools when determining your choice.

Additionally, after you have exported wiki content and no longer need the space, request that the wiki space be removed (decommissioned). Decommissioning inactive, unused wiki spaces will assist the ITS and CTL project teams to determine who still need to be contacted about their wiki spaces.

Text on wiki pages can also be individually copied and pasted into the replacement tool if you are rebuilding the structure from scratch or if no other export method works. This can be done by anyone with view access to the page (no login required).

Export Individual Pages as PDF or Microsoft Word

Best for a small amount of content that needs to be shared as separate, unlinked files. This can be done by anyone with view access to the page (no login required).

Basic document formatting should be preserved. Links within wiki pages to other wiki pages will break but links to outside web pages will be preserved. Some fonts, custom color schemes, macros, layout settings, table of contents/sidebar, and advanced features will be lost.

  1. Open the wiki page you want to export.
  2. In the top right corner of the page, click Tools.
  3. Choose either Export to PDF or Export to Word. The download should start automatically.

The process would need to be repeated for each individual page.

Export Entire Space as HTML ZIP Package or PDF “Book”

Best for large amounts of content that needs to retain table of contents and internal linking structure. You must be logged into https://wiki.rit.edu/ and have admin or export privileges on the space in order to export it.

Basic document formatting should be preserved. Links within wiki pages to other wiki pages within that space should be converted to relative links and will point to the exported version. Links within wiki pages to other wiki pages NOT in that space will remain in their original state and will point back to the wiki page. Some fonts, custom color schemes, macros, layout settings, table of contents/sidebar, and advanced features will be lost.

  1. From the bottom of the sidebar, click Space tools and select Content Tools.
  2. Click the Export tab.
  3. Choose either HTML or PDF and click Next.
    • Note: Exporting as XML is only for porting the content back into Confluence or another wiki service again.
  4. Choose from among the format-specific options and click Export.
    • The export process may take a while, depending on the number of pages and attachments it must export. Leave your browser window open until the process is completed.
  5. Once the export process is completed, click the download link at the bottom of the page.
  • No labels
