Name of concept: Teaching Degrees

Overview of idea:

Include teaching degrees in all majors at RIT.  Have RIT offer more career opportunities to draw a diversity of students to the Rochester area. Have the students take courses they REALLY need for their major and not just nonsense courses to meet graduation requirements. Don't let them waste their time and money. Let them graduate feeling like they got their moneys worth.

How this idea leverages current areas of RIT expertise:

RIT can easily accomplish all the "vision-pillars" because we have the expertise, drive and creativity to do it.

How you envision this idea advancing RIT's national or global stature in an important or emerging field:

The more diverse educationally RIT becomes a able to offer more courses and degrees, the more attractive RIT will become globally. If we don't dumb down our university but offer quality learning and instructors, our reputation will precede us.  Also, eliminate unnecessary courses/electives/credit hours just for the sake of "well rounding" a student.  Students come here to earn a degree in a specific area.  Not having to pay for nonsense courses just to meet credit requirements is purely a waste of money and time.

Why you believe RIT has a unique opportunity or an ability to differentiate itself through this idea:

RIT would be a teaching/research college in both technology and liberal arts. Offering a teaching degree will be an option for students and a direct competition for state schools who offer teaching degrees.  If RIT offered teaching degrees, the caliber of graduating researchers and teachers will quickly boast RIT reputation globally.
