h2. Subscribe to Instant News Notifications (Email, SMS, RSS)

Users have two options available for News notifications. They can be notified whenever a new news item is available and when an instructor makes a major update to an existing news item.

h3. Email

Email notifications include the headline and full body of the news item, plus a link to access the News tool for the course and any attachments.

h3. RSS

For users who prefer to aggregate all their news into Google Reader, Outlook, etc. they can now subscribe to an RSS feed for News from all of their current courses or from individual courses.

Support can only assist you with getting the RSS feed from myCourses for your use, we are not able to assist with the configuration and use of all the third-party options to take advantage of the RSS Feed.

h3. SMS

These notifications include a course identifier and as much of the headline and news body text as fits in a short message.

h2. Exclude Some Courses
By default the notification options will generate message for each course you are enrolled in, past and present. This section will allow you to customize the courses you receive notifications for.

Our recommended approach is to disable all courses and then only enable notifications for the courses you are truly interested in. You will want to revisit this each quarter to manage your course preferences.

# Under Exclude Some Courses, click *Manage my Course Exclusions*.
# On the Manage Course Exclusions dialog, click *Exclude All Courses*
# Either browse the list or use the search box to locate a course you wish to enable and click the !RestoreCourse.gif! *Restore* button next to the course title.
# Repeat the restore steps for each course you wish to enable.

h3. Search Tips
h4. Quickly find a quarter
When searching for courses, you can quickly find courses for a specific quarter by searching on the quarter number with a leading period. For example, searching on _.20112_ will display all of your enrolled courses for Winter Quarter (20112).

h4. See all courses
If you have performed a search and wish to see all of your courses again you will have to clear the search field and then click the search icon again.

h3. Excluding an individual course
You may exclude an individual course by finding it in the list and clicking the
!ExcludeCourse.gif! *Exclude* icon.

h3. Restoring all courses
# Under Exclude Some Courses, click *Manage my Course Exclusions*.
# Click on *Restore Excluded Courses*.
