Some courses have a feature enabled which allows you to take notes throughout the course and store them right in edX. Read the edX documentation on taking notes in courses. Unfortunately, this feature only works on "true" text content, and does not work on text transcripts of videos, on discussion forum text, downloadable documents, or question and answers of graded activities/surveys/polls.

You may also find value in taking notes about key themes you read in a discussion forum. To take notes on a discussion forum, select some text in the blue "Discussion Topic" section that appears before the discussion forum, and leave your notes about the discussion forum there.
If you want to take notes about something you downloaded from the course, select some text in the text surrounding the download link or the download link itself, and leave your notes about the document there.
