- Open your browser and into the address bar enter: https://computername.rit.edu:3300 or 3443 depending on the computer. If port 3300 does not work try 3443.
- This screen should appear. Login in with your RIT username and password.
- Click ‘+’,
- Click ‘Gnome’, then ‘Launch’ to launch a session with Gnome, or XFCE if you want to launch a session with XFCE. If you are using SPORC, use xterm.
- If you want to launch using a custom command, or a desktop environment that is not in the bookmarks , click "Command."
Enter the command you want to run, then click "Launch". You don't have to change the "Run As User" , "Window Mode", or "Name" fields.
Common desktop environment commands (the server you are connecting to may or may not have these installed, to find out run$ ls -l /usr/share/xsessions/in a terminal):- Gnome:
/etc/X11/xinit/Xsession gnome-session - XFCE:
startxfce4 - Cinnamon:
cinnamon-session - Openbox:
openbox - For just a terminal:
xterm

- Open the FastX application from your computer.
- In the top left corner click the '+' icon.
- Enter the name of the computer in the host field.
- Enter your RIT username in the name field.
- Do not change the Port entry
- In the name field enter the name of the computer as something you will be able to recognize.
- Click Save
- A popup may appear with ‘This host is not recognize...’, click Continue
- Enter your RIT password
- Double click the new entry in the list.
- Click the '+' icon in the top left corner of the new window.
- Select Gnome and click OK, you are now connected to the computer/server. If you are connecting to SPORC, use xterm or you can add startxfce4 for a GUI interface.
