19th Century Photographic Processes

This spring quarter course combines lecture and lab components in order to explore the materials and technology behind printing and photographic processes of the 19th century. Students study and attempt to recreate early photographic processes and experiments. The processes recreated are: anthotypes, photogenic drawing, salted paper prints (plain, gelatin and arrowroot), albumen, VanDyke, cyanotype and camera obscuras.
