You can add users to a Course Shell, such as assigning instructors or enrolling students, using the Classlist tool.

As long as there isn't a direct conflict with SIS you can add whomever you wish to your Classlist. To add a user to your course when there is an SIS conflict please review: User removed from Classlist each day.

Users not found in search

A user may not be found in search for a number of reasons.

Incorrect information

First, please confirm you are using the user's correct name and username.

We recommend searching on:

• Last Name alone
  • This avoids issues with the First name or Full Name of record not being what you expected. For example Searching on Bob Jones will not return a result if their name of record is Robert Jones.
• Username alone
  • This means searching on the username ( ABC1234 ), not the email address ( ABC1234@rit.edu ).

User is not on myCourses

myCourses only automatically receives RIT Accounts that are classified as Faculty, Staff, or Student. Other account types need to be manually added to myCourses.

New RIT Accounts are received once each morning in the daily feed which runs ~5:00 a.m. Eastern. If the RIT Account was made today it will not show up on myCourses until tomorrow with the next daily feed.

Please contact Academic Technology Support for assistance to have users added manually if needed.

Confirm you are using Add Participants

A common mistake is using the Search for field on the main Classlist page.

Please ensure you have followed the instructions and you are on the Add Participants page when searching to add users.

Users removed from Classlist each day

If a user is being removed from the Classlist each morning, this is due to the user having a Drop on their record in the daily SIS Integration feed supplied to myCourses.
