Special Access is a feature that is available on Assignments and Quizzes that allows you to configure different settings for that activity for different students, such as dates and times. This allows you to have a single activity that is available to different users at different times, making it easier to manage and to grade. These can be used with Groups and Sections by following the instructions below.
For individual students, it is recommended to use Accommodations instead.
Tool Specific Notes
Content
For Content and other items you can control access by group or section using Release Conditions.
Multiple Courses / Course Merges
You can merge multiple course and section enrollments into one course shell to make it easier to work.
A course merge must be completed before you will have the other sections available to use when making settings.
Groups
Throughout this document we will be using "group" and "groups" in a general sense to refer to both Groups and Sections.
Important Note
| Remarque |
|---|
If a Group or Section Membership changes the Special Access will not be updated automatically. Because of this we recommend assigning Special Access after the Add/Drop period. |
Ultimately Special Access is defined for individuals, we are just using tools to assign the Special Access to individuals in bulk. If a new user enrolls or an existing user changes, their Special Access must be adjusted individually.
Setting up Special Access
Special Access is found on the Restrictions tab when creating or editing an Assignment or a Quiz. In the example below we will be working on a Quiz but the same settings would apply to Assignments.
When setting up Special Access you are overriding the main settings on the activity for a select individuals.
