Before Students Submit Work
- State in a course syllabus and/or assignment instructions that students will be submitting their papers to Turnitin as part of their class work. Also link to RIT’s Honor Code and Student Academic Integrity Policy.
- Describe to students how you plan to use the Turnitin tools.
- Facilitate a dialogue on why academic integrity matters, what academic integrity looks in the course's discipline, and what is expected of the students. For ideas, review Starting the Year: How to Establish a Culture of Academic Integrity from Turnitin.
- Reassure students that they will always retain the copyright for their work.
- Encourage students that use Google Docs to use Turnitin Draft Coach for Google Docs to check their work as they write.
- Encourage students to use services and tutorials provided by the RIT Library, the RIT Writing Center, and the RIT Academic Success Center.
