The following recommendations help improve findability of videos for instructors and re-usage of videos in the future, while keeping videos shared to the appropriate audience. You are welcome to use other folder organization methods that work for you.

Your Organization (unlisted) means that only those at RIT with access to a course in myCourses will be able to view. However, the video will not show up in search results on the Panopto web portal. It can only be accessed by having a direct link via Embedding in myCourses.

The default sharing permission will be shared only to you. To share it further, adjust the settings based on your use case:

  • For drafts that you are now ready to share, move the video to the appropriate folder and adjust the sharing settings based on the recommendations in the rest of this table.
  • For student feedback, when you embed the video in myCourses feedback boxes, Panopto will automatically add the one student to the sharing permissions. No further action is required.

  • The Panopto Assignment sub-folder that allows students to record to it.
  • The actual videos students create for:
    • Student-Created Video Assignments
    • Video-based Discussions
    • Student-Created Videos for Quiz Answers
  • Videos that contain quiz questions inside of them (for a future integration enhancement which allows passing scores to gradebook).
  • Anything you want to restrict to just a specific course or courses.
