What is the difference between the PMP certification and the MicroMasters certificate?

The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is managed and awarded by the Project Management Institute (PMI). Students take the PMP examination to earn an industry-recognized certification (Project Management Professional). The PMP has more stringent pre-requisite requirements than the Project Management MicroMasters Program and is therefore not an available option to many learners that are new to the project management field but are seeking a credential in the project management field that will be recognized globally.

The RITX Project Management MicroMasters certificate is developed by the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in partnership with edX. The MicroMasters certificate can lead to credit towards an accredited graduate degree from Rochester Institute of Technology for those who apply to RIT and are accepted. The Project Management MicroMasters Credential will enable students toward their PMP, if desired, by providing project management education to be used to gain the multi-year experience requirement required by PMI.
