RIT's license with Desire2Learn for the myCourses courseware covers any account associated with an RIT Account. Accounts for non-RIT users are an additional charge for each account per our licensing agreement.

These accounts are for access to myCourses only, they do not allow access to RIT Email or any other RIT systems or services. If you need an RIT Account for a non-RIT user you will need to contact Information & Technology Services for assistance.

All RIT Accounts do not automatically have access to myCourses. We only receive the accounts for users taking classes or teaching classes. If you are trying to add an RIT Account on myCourses or are unable to login with your RIT Account on myCourses please contact ITS or Online Learning Services for assistance.

Charges

RIT Credit-bearing Activities - $5/Account
For RIT credit-bearing activities, clients are not charged for professional staff time and support. These accounts are charged the licensing fee with the vendor.

RIT Non-Credit Activities - $10/Account
Accounts which are not to be used in credit-bearing classes, but rather for other purposes within the Institute. These accounts are charged the licensing fee and include service and reasonable support for the accounts from the Online Learning office.

A chargeback will be processed on account creation, not based on account usage.

Expiration

These accounts will expires after six-months of inactivity. For example if the user has not logged in to myCourses since January 1st their account will expire on July 1st.

Expired accounts will incur another charge if they need to be recreated.

Requesting Accounts

To request accounts send an email to online@rit.edu with the following information.

  • Users first and last name
  • Users external email address

If this is for a list of five or more users please supply the information in an Excel Spreadsheet to expedite our work. One user per a line with one clumn each for First Name, Last Name, Email. Thank you!

On account creation we can do a one-time add to a course if desired. If you wish to take advantage of this option include in your email:

  • Course Offering Code ( Found in the course through the Edit Course link on the navigation bar, under the Course Information link )
  • Role for this user in the course (ie. Student, Instructor, or Guest)

Online Learning Services will respond back to you with the assigned usernames and passwords for you to communicate to your users.

Please allow for at least three business days for the creation of accounts

Access to course shells

As mentioned will offer a one-time option to add users to a course shell on account creation. Beyond that option, addinng users to course shells is the responsibility of the instructor through the Add User feature in the Claslist tool.
