Vendor Documentation
Depending on your role in a course, the Insights Portal can be accessed from the main myCourses homepage or a single course's navigation bar. The Insights Portal aggregates data that is already being tracked in myCourses such as student time on task, course login patterns, activity submission information, and grades. Data is shared as interactive visualizations with drill down options and filters. Regardless of the way you access the Insights Portal, it will show data for all courses together, but you can filter each visualization by course, semester, or student. Data can also be exported.
The Insights Portal includes dashboards available to the instructor role in myCourses.
Engagement: Includes information on time since last course access, time in content, and time in content in relation to current grade for all students of a course or courses. This information can help instructors understand how students are interacting with course materials. It can also help instructors identify disengaged and at-risk students so the instructor can reach out to individual students, or patterns of interaction that helped students be successful to share general advice to the entire class.
- Learner Engagement: Provides similar details as the regular Engagement dashboard, but is intended for when the instructor knows which one student they want to focus on. If the instructor teaches multiple courses where that student is enrolled, then the instructor can see information from those multiple courses together. Instructors do not see any information for other courses the student is taking that the instructor does not have access to.
- Assessment Quality: Includes quiz and question statistics such as reliability, average grade, and correlations. This information can help instructors understand the quality of their assessments.
Students and Teaching Assistants do not have access to this tool.
Instructor Training
- If you are interested in accessing the Insights Portal from within a course, customize the navigation bar to add the Insights Portal tool to your course. You can copy your existing navigation bar to keep your currently-used items and just add the new tools you want.
- Only instructors and Support Staff will see this navigation item from within a course once it is added. Students and Teaching Assistants will not see Insights Portal in their navigation bar nor will they have access to this tool.
- Instructor roles can always access the Insights Portal from the main myCourses homepage without having to edit the navigation bar. Other roles may not see the Insights Portal from the main myCourses homepage.
