| Tracking Items | Tracking items are areas that can be monitored in Starfish; there are 4 types: Flags and Kudos are in Early Alert; (To-Do and Referrals are in Connect) For example: “Poor Class Participation” or “Keep Up the Good Work” |
| Flags | Flags are raised to indicate a concern about a student For example: “Poor Attendance” |
| User Flags | User Flags are tracking items that are manually raised by users in the system. They are accessible independent of the progress survey. |
| Kudos | Kudos are used to let a student know they are doing well in course For example: "Great Work" |
| Progress Survey | A survey that provides an easy way for instructors to report multiple concerns on multiple students at once (from a class roster). Surveys can include multiple tracking items and be customized for the time of the term, special populations, etc. |
| View | This allows users with the specified Role to View the Tracking Item for a student with whom they have a relationship, as well as any comments on the item. |
| Manage | This allows users with the specified Role to Manage the Tracking Item for a student with whom they have a relationship. Manage privileges allow users to make additional comments on Tracking Items and to Resolve Tracking Items. |
| Flag Raiser | For User Flags only, this allows users with the specified Role to create the Tracking Item for a student with whom they have a relationship. |
| Connection | Connections identify the relationships a user has with a student. For example: An instructor who is also a faculty advisor will be able to see students listed by each connection. |
| Comments | Comments are a type of note. Comments are connected to specific tracking items and are utilized to add information to the tracking item. It is an option to share the comment with the student and the flag raiser. |
| Message | A message is an email sent from the Starfish system, it is captured in the student folder but is not affiliated with a tracking item. |
| Resolve Tracking Items | Anyone who can manage a tracking item can also clear the item For Example: Clear the Flag |
| Clear the Flag | Clearing the flag indicates that the tracking item has been resolved, anyone who can manage the flag can Clear the Flag |
| Close the Loop | When a flag is cleared, this is an opportunity to send an email to the flag raiser notifying them that the tracking item has been resolved. Anyone who can manage the flag can Close the Loop, the Flag Raiser does not have the Close the Loop option (but they can Clear the Flag). |
| Student Folder | This is where you can view all tracking items as well as where you can add a new tracking item on a particular student. |
| Profile | Information people can see about you, also where you set up your email notification preferences. |
