Tracking Items

Tracking items are areas that can be monitored in Early Alert. There are 2 types of tracking items in Early Alert: Flags and Kudos.

For example: “Poor Class Participation” or “Keep Up the Good Work”

Flags

Flags are raised to indicate a concern about a student's performance in a course.

For example: “Low Quiz/Test Scores”

Kudos

Kudos are used to let a student know they are doing well in a course.

For example: "Keep Up the Good Work"

Progress SurveyA progress survey provides an easy way for instructors to report multiple concerns on multiple students at once.

Progress surveys will be launched twice a term so instructors can provide feedback at strategic points in
time. Surveys are based on SIS class rosters and include multiple tracking items.

Flag RaiserThe Flag Raiser is the instructor who initiates an alert for a student with whom they have a connection.
Connection

Connections identify the relationships a user has with a student. Users may have multiple connections and will be able to access student information based on those connections.

Instructor: Is able to access student information related to the course(s) they are teaching.

Advisor: Is able to access information about all courses in which an advisee is enrolled.

CommentComments are a type of note.  Comments are connected to specific early alert tracking items and are designed to provide additional information and detail to the tracking item.  There is an option to share the comment with the student and the flag raiser.
MessageA message is an email sent from the instructor to the student via the Early Alert system. It is captured in the student folder but is not affiliated with a specific Early Alert tracking item.
Resolve Tracking Items

Based on a user's connection with a student, a flag can be cleared when the concern has been addressed with the student. The instructor and advisors can all clear flags.

For Example: Clear Flag or Remove Kudo

Clear Flag Clearing the flag indicates that an Early Alert tracking item has been addressed with the student and the student understands the concern and can articulate a plan to change behavior. The instructor and advisors can all clear flags.
Close the LoopWhen a flag is cleared by an advisor, there is an opportunity to send an email to the flag raiser (instructor) notifying them that the tracking item has been cleared: Close the Loop.  The Flag Raiser does not have the Close the Loop option (but they can Clear Flag).
Student FolderIn the Student Folder you can view all Early Alert tracking items as well as add a new tracking item on a particular student.
ProfileThe profile includes nformation people can see about you, and is also where you set-up your email notification preferences.
