h2. Name of Concept: Downtown Campus

h2. Overview

I have just heard that a masters degree program in architecture has just been approved by Academic Senate. That is truly exciting news - a good match for RIT's expertise in both engineering and art\!

I would love to see us have a presence in downtown Rochester and this new program might be a good fit and we reinvent our urban centers. Architecture will play a major role in that renewal. A downtown presence would also provide us with greater diversity in so many ways.

h3. How this idea leverages current areas of RIT expertise

This idea could also be incorporated into the Public Policy program at RIT. This is an opportunity for cross-disciplinary collaboration that will benefit our students, faculty, staff, and the Greater Rochester region.

h3. Main RIT on-campus champion(s) for this idea

I don't know yet, but I think if the idea gets floated out there, one will emerge.

h2. Is there potential off-campus advocacy and support for the idea?

Yes - The City of Rochester, The State of New York, and many other organizations involved in urban renewal and regeneration.

h2. Are you aware of another university that is working on a similar idea?

No, but I will explore it\!
