Academic Progress Reports 


The Progress Report allows an instructor to send alerts related to four different aspects of academic performance (attendance, participation, assignments, and tests). Each aspect identified as a concern will generate its own standardized email directly to the student.


  1. Access Starfish through: 
    1. myCourses by clicking the Starfish button or the hyperlink
    2. SIS by clicking the Starfish tile on the Teaching, Advising & Support page
  2. From the Starfish homepage, click the Instructor Report link for the appropriate course


  3. Complete the progress report *Click here for instructional video



    1. For each student on the class roster, check the box for the area that you are most concerned
      1. When you select to alert a student in the report, a blue  will appear at the end of the row 

      2. Click on the blue and type your comment in the text box, comments should be addressed directly to the student as they are sent directly to them via email. Comments should not include anything personal in nature. If you have behavioral or mental health concerns about a student you should submit a Tiger Concern Report to RIT's Student Behavior Consultation Team (SBCT).

    2. If you do not have concerns about a student, do not check anything, no email is sent to the student

  4. Once you have completed the report, click Submit
    1. The report will auto-save if you do not have time to complete a report in one sitting
      IMPORTANT NOTE: Saved drafts do not get submitted when the report closes, instructors must click submit before the report closes for alerts to be sent to the student(s)
    2. After a report is submitted it cannot be re-opened, however you can still raise a flag and send an alert to a student
    3. If there are no students in the course who need an alert, you still need to submit the report so it is recorded as viewed/complete

Roster Verification Reports

Roster verification reports are completed by a selection of traditionally 1st year courses, including all RIT365 courses. Instructors raise no show alerts for students who have not attended class or communicated with the instructor. For more information and details about the process download the guide below.

    2. SIS by clicking the Starfish tile on the Teaching, Advising & Support page
  2. From the Starfish homepage, click the Instructor Report link for the appropriate course


  3. Complete the roster verification report *Click here for instructional video
     


    1. For each student on the class roster, check the box for any student who did not attend or communicate their absence to you after the end of the second class
      1. When you select to alert a student in the report, a blue  will appear at the end of the row 

      2. Click on the blue to type a specific comment in the text box, comments should be addressed directly to the student as they are sent directly to them via email. Comments should not include anything personal in nature. If you have behavioral or mental health concerns about a student you should submit a Tiger Concern Report to RIT's Student Behavior Consultation Team (SBCT).

    2. If the student has attended, or communicated to attend, the course do not check anything, no email is sent to the student

  4. Once you have completed the report, click Submit
